Personally, I don’t use cookbooks that much. They weigh me down, force me to do something within the bounds of a “recipe” and make me feel like I “need” them to make recipes. As a recipe developer and chef, I’ve never found them useful as cooking helpers…mostly as decorations and sometimes, for baking (cause, you know, science). I know there are people out there though, that LIVE in their cookbooks. There are those who collect them, going to shops all over the place and buying up whatever is on sale or seems to be a good collection of recipes. Well, if you are one of those people, today’s prize is definitely for YOU! Continue reading “11 Days of Giveaways – Day 6” →
There are a few things in life that are pure bliss. Most of mine involve chocolate, doughnuts or a perfect lift. But there are also these fun little drupals known as coconuts. I’m sure you are all aware of my book, Cooking with Coconut Oil, whicch spreads the love for the magical oil you can press from it’s flesh, but the coconut offers much and more from it’s wonderful hanging “fruits”. The “water” inside of a coconut is sterile and matches human electrolyte balance very closely, which is why it was used in the Pacific War by both sides as emergency plasma transfusions for wounded soldiers. What a magical thing the coconut truly is. So I am happy to announce that today’s prize for the 11 Days of Giveaways – Day 5 comes courtesy of O.N.E. Coconut Water! Today’s Prize for the 11 Days of Giveaways – Day 3 is a lifesaver, literally.
Way back in 2012, I started following an account on Instagram that I thought was pure badassery. Her name is @KMaeCags and she is hawt, buff, covered in tattoos and speaks 100% honestly about pretty much everything. She knows how to crush a workout, will teach you to do the same, smashes doughnuts like a boss and will even help you build a diet that will leave you with a smokin’ hot bod should you put in the work. Her name is Krissy Mae Cagney and she is the voice and talent behind the soon to be open Black Iron Training facility in New York City, the programming mastermind behind KMaeCags programming and diet ebooks and also the creator of the Doughnuts and Deadlifts brand. Have you ever struggled with a movement at the gym that you just couldn’t overcome? For me, that has always been pullups. Granted, I have some serious muscle weirdness going on in my upper back from my surgery (including bits that have never recovered feeling in them) but mostly it’s because, as a female that had no professional trainer, I avoided most upper body work. I don’t think I hardly ever did anything overhead…ever. When I started CrossFit, we were instructed on kipping pullups, but I barely had the strength to do even jumping pullups. We now know that NO ONE should be doing kipping pullups unless they have the strength to do at least a few strict pullups. So I continue on, with negative pullups during most conditioning WODs. I have achieved one strict pullup and I can do many kipping, but until I can do five strict, I’ll stick to the basics.
If you struggle with pullups, today is your day!
Today’s Prize in the 11 Days of Giveaways – Day 2 is 1 Perfect Pullup Bar courtesy of Fitness Town in Vancouver BC!
