Coffee, Caffeine and Lifting

coffee pour over

Some of you may know that I’ve been participating in a campaign with Lavazza over the last eight months or so called “Lavazza Passionista”. Today’s post will be my last in the campaign but it also just so happens to be International Coffee Day, which is really just every day for me, but I digress…

During the past few months, I’ve talked a lot about my love of coffee, my love of caffeinated beverages and the various forms they come in. Personally, I’m a big fan of French press, pour overs and Americanos (cause I’m a total coffee snob), but sometimes I like a quick cup of joe when I’m sitting at my desk and I need something to sip on. Sure, water is good for you, hydrates you and does numerous other cleansing and purifying things for our bodies (right?) but coffee, well, it’s in it’s own class of awesomeness and also, on a satisfaction scale…I’m thinking coffee wins.

Coffee has numerous benefits for the body, but let’s go over my personal favourites:

  • Increases lipolysis (the process in your body where fat stores are converted to energy)
  • Increases metabolism
  • Boosts memory
  • Increases stamina
  • May protect against liver and colorectal cancer
  • Helps prevent type II diabetes, heart failure, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s
  • Blocks Adenosine (hormone that causes tiredness and sleep)
  • increases heart rate and breathing (great for preworkout)
  • Caffeine mixed with carbohydrates has been shown to replenish muscle glycogen faster and relieve post-workout soreness
  • Increases dopamine in the brain, helping to ease depression

Now why wouldn’t you want to have a nice cup of coffee? Sure tea has antioxidants and it’s made by fairies hand rolling tiny flowers and leaves just for you, but coffee has it’s own DAY! Plus, I feel like if people are willing to drink coffee made from pooped out beans of cats…well, it’s something special, know what I mean?

So the Lavazza team sent me a cute little Keurig machine:

Keurig1-2

I’m not a huge fan of these machines, mostly because of the waste from the little plastic cups…but I’m warming up to it. It is pretty convenient to just pour in some water, pop in the little cup and blammo! Coffee! What is not fun is dissecting the little cups so I can compost the insides and recycle the outsides…I’m not digging it. Anyone know an easier way? I know you can get little filter cups…but I think there must be some other way right?

In any case, if you also love the convenience of Keurig but haven’t had the opportunity to experience it in your own home, now is your chance. The lovely people at Lavazza have offered to let me give away one of these very machines as well as every flavour of Italy’s favourite coffee to one of my readers! Yay! I love giving back to the people. Enter below!

I’m off to PR some lifts with all this caffeine in my system…WHOOOOOOOOOOOooOOOOoOooooOoooOOOooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
