Immersive Fitness

Final before and After2

It’s no secret that I love fitness.

You might think I only believe in one type of fitness, but that’s simply not true. Before I started CrossFit, Power Lifting and Olympic Lifting, I was a pupil of the Beachbody way of life. I did the Insanity DVDs eight times through, then Insanity: The Asylum for another two rounds. I then got into P90X and P90X2 before finally discovering CrossFit through my neighbours (The pictures above show my before and after all the Beachbody stuff). I also dabbled in running, hot yoga, Daily HIIT and many other forms of fitness before settling on the one that was right for me. What can I say? I fell in love with lifting heavy and I’ll never go back.

That being said, I’ve also tried to talk a lot of people into lifting heavy with Adrian and I, and you know what? It’s not for everyone. Not everyone has the time, money, energy, motivation, or passion to go out there and stock up a garage gym and learn how to use it properly. Two years in, I’m still learning about all the cool shit I can do and how to do it properly. Most people I know attend a classic cym, go to a CrossFit style “box” or head out to fitness/studio classes. I’ve tried the fitness class thing and I didn’t love it in most iterations. I found that the coaching was spotty and lacking as there was just too many people in the class. I especially disliked the setting of hot yoga classes. Seems to me, most of these places sell the rooms to maximum capacity (I get it, we all need to make the moolah), which in a hot, sweaty, damp room makes for an uncomfortably close experience. I was once in a hot yoga class where the person in front of me was so close (we were squeezed in on all sides, mat to mat to mat) that when we lay down in a resting position on our stomachs, there were feet in my face. Sweaty feet.immersive fitness2

But I’ve also been in group classes for CrossFit, and those were fun. The people in the class help you with your form, they compete with you, they cheer you on and it makes for a great experience. I’ve also taken a few other group fitness classes, though I can confidently say I would not take them on a regular basis, mostly because I bought a house specifically for the two car garage that we turned into a workout space.

So before I get into today’s topic, let me say this:

All views in any and all advertorial content on guiltykitchen.com is 100% my true and honest opinion. This blog started with humble beginnings, but my aim in the next few years is to make this blog my full-time job. Without income from sources such as these, this goal would not be possible. So with that in mind, let’s talk about Les Mills. You may recognize that name: “Founded in 1968 by New Zealand-born Olympian Les Mills, the LES MILLS™ company has become a dominant force in the global fitness industry. Millions of people unleash their potential at LES MILLS™ classes around the world each week. LES MILLS™ has introduced scientifically backed and proven classes to the fitness world such as the world’s most popular barbell class BODYPUMP™, BODYCOMBAT™ and more recently, the LES MILLS GRIT™ Series (high intensity interval training).”

LES MILLS is now introducing “the next level of fitness”, IMMERSIVE FITNESS™. So what the hell is IMMERSIVE FITNESS™?

IMMERSIVE FITNESS™ surrounds participants with cinema quality video content projected onto screens of a purpose-built studio.  Exercise moves synchronize perfectly with music and graphics, creating a truly immersive fitness experience.

What is getting me super pumped about this is the fact that they have partnered with REEBOK to bring this project to life. You all might know my love of Reebok products, most notably their CrossFit Nano shoes and CrossFit bras (probably some of the comfiest sports bras around, sorry Lulu…). So after this peek into the world of IMMERSIVE FITNESS™, I can say that I might actually be interested in taking a class. Mostly to see what it would be like to be in that type of futuristic, Blade Runner kind of world. It’s like super virtual reality stuff right there, but you actually use your body.

So when is it coming and how can you get involved? First, follow “The pr0ject” on Instagram for all their updates and then check the Immersive Fitness website for all the updates. I’ll be watching to see who gets involved and how much they love it or hate it. Do you think it will revolutionize studio fitness? We’ll soon find out…
