Because I was too lazy (and it was too dark at that point) last night to break out my DSLR and take real photos, and I have very limited time today between dropping my preschooler off and picking her up, I present to you a summary of every food blogger’s first “Fall/Autumn” post that involves something with pumpkin.
Autumn.
Fall.
Sweaters. That smoky smell in the air. Scarves, so many awesome scarves. Boots of unimaginable cost, but they’re so PRETTY! Boots with heels, and slouchy boots, boots that hurt your feet and boots that make it hard to walk. Hunter galoshes on every foot (seriously…is it time for that to not be a fad yet?).
Trench coats, pea coats, leather bomber jackets, hoodies, toggle buttons, fuzzy fleece and itchy wool.
Brown, orange red and yellow….
Leaves. Leaves that fall. Leaves that fall into my yard. Leaves that fall into my yard and make me put on my pretty Hunter boots and go rake them.
Chills in the air. Seeing your breath.
Defogging the windshield every morning.
Time for gloves. Time to find the gloves from last year. Time to buy new gloves because you can only find one glove of the pair of the sixteen pairs you bought last year.
Time to turn the heat on for the first time in six months. That gross smell of burnt dust. Who dusts their electric heaters anyway?
Time to close all the windows that have been open for six months.
Order firewood at the very last minute. Everyone else also waited until the very last minute. Firewood is sold out. Shit. Burn every scrap of wood in your yard waiting for the firewood guys to get more stock.
Chili. Stew. Crock pot. Oatmeal. Pulled meats. Soup. Order your turkey for Thanksgiving.
Squash, pumpkin patches, farmer’s markets full of nothing but squash and pumpkins. (Just kidding! There’s lots there, go buy stuff!)
Put away the barbeque with an empty propane tank, just to screw yourself next year on the first day you want to fire it up.
Pumpkin everything. Pumpkin oatmeal, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin cake, pumpkin soufflées, pumpkin soup, pumpkin lattées, pumpkin pies, pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin.
Halloween. Candy. Too much sugar. Trick or treating. Heartburn. Regret. Is it November Yet?
