The Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away Upright Vacuum

I don’t often write posts centered specifically around consumer products….so expect a return to the normal recipe post by the weekend…

BUT…

This. Vacuum. Rocked. My. Socks. OFF!

Seriously. I have been using a Shop Vac for two years and before that I only used a broom (hardwood floors) and before that…a crappy Dirt Devil that overheated and never came back to life. I have never owned a “good” vacuum and with my lion’s mane of hair plus two shed-erific dogs and your standard dirt from kids, etc. I was highly in need of a vacuum intervention.

So I got the Shark Rotator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum from the Canadian Tire Destination Home Guide after being gone for three days and having a super busy weekend after returning (ie: I had not had time to wash my clothes yet, let alone vacuum the floors). The dogs were here the whole time, being looked after by family, so that accumulates fast, being that it is spring, they shed about thirteen pounds of hair a day….not joking….it’s gross.

We don’t have very much of the square footage carpeted, but the carpets that are around are the dogs favourite place to lay down, or wrestle…which in the beams of light from the sun looks like a cloud of dog hair and some moving animals.

Here’s our area rug in between the kitchen and office:

I know you see that dog hair! Gross. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that it looks like that right after I vacuum it…at least with the Shop Vac. But look what happened after I vacuumed it with the Shark Rotator!

This was with after using the brushroll feature. You just push a button on the top of the vacuum when you hit a high pile carpet and the brushes start rolling…almost like a self powered lawn mower. It kinda drags you along. Then I made the mistake of looking in the clear canister. JUST THE CARPET. Oh my god! That’sĀ embarrassing.

Obviously the Shop Vac can take some surface dirt up off of bare floors, like a carport maybe, and it works okay in the car… but for serious ground in dirt and fur from dogs, kids and the like…You need some seriously powerful suction.

The Shark Rotator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum (long name, phew) has an adjuster ring on the handle to lower or raise the level of suction. So when I took all the hoses off and used the pet brush attachment for the couch, it just about sucked the couch cushions right up! Turn that sucker down though and it cleaned to a level I hadn’t seen since the couch was new. Yay! Clean couch!

The kids got pretty excited about how quiet the new vacuum is too…you know, Shop Vacs are kinda loud. When I used to turn it on, it was almost like quiet time for me away from everyone because both dogs and kids would scatter as soon as it was turned on. But The Shark, well….

Sweet. I guess it’s time to start paying an allowance around here…

Here’s another carpet we have, although this one is leather, so anything that accumulates on it is very visible. It usually takes me some time to vacuum this as I had to use the hose attachment by itself from the Shop Vac and get down on my hands and knees to vacuum it. Not anymore. A couple of pass overs and it was sparkling!

So I took this thing for about an hour’s spin just to get rid of all the accumulated filth left from the previous vacuum. I gotta say, it was pretty fun. It was quiet, easy to use, had so many attachments I didn’t even know what to do with them and it has a lift away feature, so you can take it up and down the stairs easily or use it to vacuum curtains or shelves. By far my favourite accessory though was the dusting brush. I HATE DUSTING. We have black everything and it shows every speck of dust even the few seconds right after cleaning it. It does not ever get clean. We have black trim, black shelves, black TV stand (glass), black counters…you get the picture. I usually use a cloth and spray or a Swiffer dusting cloth but they aren’t that great. The dusting brush though? YES! The suction cleaned up the debris that would have usually flown away and everything looked clean and sparkling!

Look at all those accessories! There’s a pet hair attachment, a bare floor attachment, the regular brush roll head (shown attached), the dusting brush (that bends for ceiling fans), a multi tool brush with a slide on brush head and an articulating crevice tool that extends and is made of rubber. So cool.

Nerd level…rising….

So there’s my old vac…which will now be stored in it’s rightful place (the garage) and my new vacuum! It’s quiet, it’s sleek, it’s my favourite colour…I love it. But for those looking to buy a new vacuum, here are the best points of the Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away Upright Vacuum:

So there you have it. I have to say thank you to Canadian Tire for supplying this vacuum. I’ll be joyfully vacuuming every day now!
