The Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away Upright Vacuum

I don’t often write posts centered specifically around consumer products….so expect a return to the normal recipe post by the weekend…

BUT…

This. Vacuum. Rocked. My. Socks. OFF!

Seriously. I have been using a Shop Vac for two years and before that I only used a broom (hardwood floors) and before that…a crappy Dirt Devil that overheated and never came back to life. I have never owned a “good” vacuum and with my lion’s mane of hair plus two shed-erific dogs and your standard dirt from kids, etc. I was highly in need of a vacuum intervention.

So I got the Shark Rotator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum from the Canadian Tire Destination Home Guide after being gone for three days and having a super busy weekend after returning (ie: I had not had time to wash my clothes yet, let alone vacuum the floors). The dogs were here the whole time, being looked after by family, so that accumulates fast, being that it is spring, they shed about thirteen pounds of hair a day….not joking….it’s gross.

We don’t have very much of the square footage carpeted, but the carpets that are around are the dogs favourite place to lay down, or wrestle…which in the beams of light from the sun looks like a cloud of dog hair and some moving animals.

Here’s our area rug in between the kitchen and office:

Area rug 1-2

I know you see that dog hair! Gross. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that it looks like that right after I vacuum it…at least with the Shop Vac. But look what happened after I vacuumed it with the Shark Rotator!

Carpet after vaccuming 1-2

This was with after using the brushroll feature. You just push a button on the top of the vacuum when you hit a high pile carpet and the brushes start rolling…almost like a self powered lawn mower. It kinda drags you along. Then I made the mistake of looking in the clear canister. JUST THE CARPET. Oh my god! That’s embarrassing.

Obviously the Shop Vac can take some surface dirt up off of bare floors, like a carport maybe, and it works okay in the car… but for serious ground in dirt and fur from dogs, kids and the like…You need some seriously powerful suction.

The Shark Rotator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum (long name, phew) has an adjuster ring on the handle to lower or raise the level of suction. So when I took all the hoses off and used the pet brush attachment for the couch, it just about sucked the couch cushions right up! Turn that sucker down though and it cleaned to a level I hadn’t seen since the couch was new. Yay! Clean couch!

The kids got pretty excited about how quiet the new vacuum is too…you know, Shop Vacs are kinda loud. When I used to turn it on, it was almost like quiet time for me away from everyone because both dogs and kids would scatter as soon as it was turned on. But The Shark, well….

Cohen and Shark Rotator Professional2

Sweet. I guess it’s time to start paying an allowance around here…

Here’s another carpet we have, although this one is leather, so anything that accumulates on it is very visible. It usually takes me some time to vacuum this as I had to use the hose attachment by itself from the Shop Vac and get down on my hands and knees to vacuum it. Not anymore. A couple of pass overs and it was sparkling!
Leather Carpet 1-2

So I took this thing for about an hour’s spin just to get rid of all the accumulated filth left from the previous vacuum. I gotta say, it was pretty fun. It was quiet, easy to use, had so many attachments I didn’t even know what to do with them and it has a lift away feature, so you can take it up and down the stairs easily or use it to vacuum curtains or shelves. By far my favourite accessory though was the dusting brush. I HATE DUSTING. We have black everything and it shows every speck of dust even the few seconds right after cleaning it. It does not ever get clean. We have black trim, black shelves, black TV stand (glass), black counters…you get the picture. I usually use a cloth and spray or a Swiffer dusting cloth but they aren’t that great. The dusting brush though? YES! The suction cleaned up the debris that would have usually flown away and everything looked clean and sparkling!

Vacuums 1-2

Look at all those accessories! There’s a pet hair attachment, a bare floor attachment, the regular brush roll head (shown attached), the dusting brush (that bends for ceiling fans), a multi tool brush with a slide on brush head and an articulating crevice tool that extends and is made of rubber. So cool.

Nerd level…rising….

Vacuums 2-2

So there’s my old vac…which will now be stored in it’s rightful place (the garage) and my new vacuum! It’s quiet, it’s sleek, it’s my favourite colour…I love it. But for those looking to buy a new vacuum, here are the best points of the Shark Rotator Professional Lift-Away Upright Vacuum:

  • Easy care canister opens at the top and bottom and is huge. You just dump it out at the end of every cleaning session.
  • The filters NEVER NEED TO BE REPLACED! You wash and dry them every three months and you are good to go.
  • The head pivots for tight corners and easy walking.
  • HEPA filter
  • Motorized Brushroll to get that deep down dirt in carpets.
  • Canister that can be removed from brushroll to clean carpets, upholstery or stairs.
  • Extra long cord
  • Stretch hose for those high up places
  • Variable suction
  • Optional accessories are amazing

So there you have it. I have to say thank you to Canadian Tire for supplying this vacuum. I’ll be joyfully vacuuming every day now!

This is crazy! I JUST told my husband about this vacuum bc ours just died. He was a little hesitant bc of the price(he wants a dyson if we are spending more then $200)… Our dog sheds LIKE CRAZY! I literally vacuum the main floor 3-4 times a day bc I can’t stand to see hair(especially with my little one running around). So glad this works great on hair!!! FYI, I LOVE product reviews!

  • Although I loathe all house work, I do, for some odd reason, enjoy vacuuming. And I was JUST complaining about having to lug ours up from the basement every time I do. This looks like it has a lot of features that my current (run of the mill) vacuum is missing. And also, is it me, or does it look a bit like R2D2? Maybe my Star Wars loving son will be inclined to do some housework too 🙂

Do you still love your vacuum? We desperately need a new one, especially with our brand new, light-coloured kitty shedding all over everything.

  • Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it’s tough to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a superb
job with this. Also, the blog loads super fast for me on Firefox.

    Excellent Blog!

  • Oh ya, the Shark. It’s really good. I have a Shark Navigator Professional and it feels almost the same as a Dyson that cost 3 times the price. There are other really good options though. I actually did a round up of great vacuum for pet hair, you can check it out here:

This is the best vacume ever created! The price is reasonable and it does a fabulous job. I bought one for myself in December and every time I use it I get excited to see what it has pulled up. I vacume every week and at this time haven’t any dogs. It is amazing what it picks up. I also went on line to make sure that is wasn’t destroying my carpet when I vacumed. I haven’t found any negative reviews regarding that. The only thing I see is dirt.
I used to have an Oreck which is supposed to be so good. Believe me, the amount of dirt vacumed up in the first week would have taken my Oreck months to accumulate in the bag.
I recomend this vacume to anyone and everyone.

I clean 6 houses and a church with the Shark Rotator Lift-Away. It is light-weight and easy to use on stairs. Power brush easily cleans pet hair off of chairs and sofas. I’m always amazed at how much dirt is in the canister at the end of a cleaning. People that I clean for are always amazed and very pleased. Also, people who go to the church where I clean have said that they have never seen the church so clean as it is now.
No regrets buying the Shark Rotator Lift-Away.

Does this work well for long human hair?

    • Elizabeth

Yes! My hair is VERY long and it picks it up well. It does get wrapped around the beater bar occasionally though, so it does need cleaning once in a while.

Are there any reviews of the Shark Navigator versus the Shark Rotator? I’m not sure which to get, I’d like to see Customer reviews about this.

Hello there! I know this is kind of off topic but I was
wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with
hackers and I’m looking at options for another platform.
I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

  • Thanks for the good write-up, I was hunting for details like this, going to take a look at the other blog posts.

  • The vacuum seems to be really amazing! I also have never had a good vacuum cleaner and I use mainly tools to clean the hardwood floor. I have few carpets that I clean with my old vacuum cleaner. Thank you for the review! It really looks nice and I think that my life may also change for good if I buy this vacuum cleaner! 🙂

  • The vacuum cleaner looks great but a bit heavy and hard to maneuver may be. I am looking for a good vacuum cleaner now to replace my old one and I definitely really like this model of cleaners but I am just a bit concerned that it will be hard to use. Thank you!

  • […] made surprisingly good coffee and is a bit of a smart ass. Chelsea was very compliant and has a stellar vacuum.  (Must. get. one.) Honestly, I felt like “the thing that wouldn’t go away” […]
