I’m totally going to jump on the bandwagon here and do a recipe roundup of the top 10 recipes of 2010, as chosen by you, my readers.
It’s been an amazing, memorable year and I am eager to get started on the next one. So much happened this year, but the biggest thing was a small addition to our family and I couldn’t be happier about it. It feels like we are finally done, this family is complete. Maybe it’s just the thought of being pregnant again (shudder) that keeps me thinking this way. Either way, I am happy to have my family and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Before we get started, I just want to say thank you to my readers for being there for me. When I started this blog I had no idea how such a community could exist. Food bloggers are the kindest, most generous people and they are always there for you. My readers have to be the sincerest people and always ready to be my shoulder to cry on, or to boost me up when I am down. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Here we go:
#10. Crispy Sweet Potato Fries and Roasted Broccoli with Almonds
These crispy little wonders are a delicious side to any meal and I’m not surprised they were so popular. Try the roasted broccoli too though, a delicious way to enjoy everyone’s least favourite cruciferous food.
#9. Perfect Every Time Roasted Chicken and Root Vegetables
This recipe is one dear to my…urhm….stomach. I seriously make this chicken at least once a week. It’s an absolute favourite staple in this house. No one can say no to juicy, moist and flavourful roasted chicken.
These are also a favourite staple in my house. They are so low in sugar and so high in whole grains that I make a batch every week or so and freeze them for quick breakfasts for the wee one. He loves them so much and I don’t feel guilty giving them to him. Even if I do spread some butter on and maybe even a dab or two of maple syrup. So sue me.
#7. Black Bean Salad
This one doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s super easy, fast and inexpensive. Besides that, it’s healthy, tastes great and looks pretty. What more could you ask for in a bean salad?
#6. Butter Bean Hummus Flatbread with Asparagus, Brie and Caramelized Onions
What more can be said about this delicious pizza/flatbread? It’s amazing and full of fresh spring flavours.
This is a gloriously no-bake incarnation of pumpkin pie, only better. It’s smooth, wonderfully spiced and takes no time at all to prepare. Perfect for any get together.
#4. The Ultimate Vegan Brownies
This recipe brings the most Google searchers by far. I guess everyone is looking for a good vegan brownie, and here it is. This recipe was the result of a dare by a pregnant woman, to me, another pregnant woman (at the time) and was like the ultimate “triple dog dare”. It had to be done and I don’t regret it one bit. It is one of two recipes featured in The Foodies of the World book as well. They are dense, chewy and most importantly, chocolate-y.
#3. Jacked Up Cookies and Cream Ice Cream
This recipe was one of my favourites to make and eat. Obviously, based on it’s popularity, people really do love to indulge. Just once in a while right? This recipe is your classic cookies and cream (from scratch) but with luscious dulce de leche, loads of vanilla bean and chocolate dipped Oreos to accentuate it’s damn-goodness. Is that a word? It is now.
#2. Mom’s Homemade BBQ Sauce
Who doesn’t love a delicious, sticky, smoky, sweet BBQ sauce slathered all over a juicy cut of meat? That’s what I thought. Mama Guilty blessed my kitchen with this sauce while I rocked and walked and soothed a tired newborn baby. I ate my ribs one handed while nursing said infant to sleep. It was so worth it and I’d do it all over again. We’ve made it a few times since and it’s always a crowd pleaser.
and the #1. Recipe of the year? My Avocado and Cilantro Dressing.
This may seem like an odd first place recipe, but believe me, it’s damn good salad dressing. It’s amazing on pasta salads, it’s vegan, it’s green, it’s tasty, it’s just damn good. Got it? Good.
And there you have it folks. 12 months of fun have come to an end and I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things. I’m so glad you’ve stuck with me and I hope to see you in the new year. So good luck my friends and a Happy New year to you and your families!

Aww, I have the best husband ever. 🙂 Love you too!
What a great list. It has been a great year culinarily in this household and online. Your dressing sounds very good. I have to try that. I am going to try the Buttermilk Pancakes too – I am trying to get my hubby and son to eat more whole grains. I have been sneaking veggies into their food and it is working.
I really enjoy your blog, altho’ I don’t comment often. I will try and respond more often. One of my only resolutions (that and trying to drop 10 lb and keeping it off and of course, trying to exercise more and being lazy less). Continual resolutions.
Happy New Year!
I feel ya. It’s always those last little pounds that haunt you forever isn’t it? Try the pancakes though, they are delicious, filling and healthy to boot!
All of them are wonderful.
